Trafficking attempt foiled at Bali airport

DENPASAR, Indonesia – Authorities have stopped a suspected human trafficking attempt at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and returned the alleged victims to East Nusa Tenggara Province, according to media reports.

    Eight people – six alleged victims and two suspected perpetrators – were stopped just minutes before boarding a flight Saturday evening (February 2nd) to Jakarta with continuing service to Batam in the Riau Islands, according to The Jakarta Post.

    Six women, aged 20 to 28, had been promised domestic workers jobs in Malaysia, the report said. They were stopped after East Nusa Tenggara police notified police in Bali that the group was strongly suspected of carrying illegal travel documents.

    The six were flown to Kupang and handed into the custody of East Nusa Tenggara police together with two suspects, Anita Laksono, 21, and Aziz Suparto Mustafa, 28.
