15, 10-year sentences sought for suspected terrorists

February 08, 2014

JAKARTA, Indonesia – Prosecutors are seeking 15- and 10-year prison sentences respectively, for suspected terrorists Agus Widarto (alias Agus Nangka) and Agung Fauzi, local media reported Wednesday (February 5th).

Agung was allegedly involved in several failed robberies and terrorist plots; Agus was his teacher and boss, according to prosecutors. They demanded a greater sentence for Agus because his allegedly misleading police testimony slowed investigations.

Both men reportedly belonged to the Abu Roban-founded Western Indonesia Mujahideen. Agus allegedly recruited Agung in 2012, according to TribunNews.com.

Abu Roban allegedly instructed Agung in August 2012 to plot the assassination of Supomo Guntur, deputy mayor of Makassar. The plot was called off.

The two defendants were then allegedly instructed to commit fai, robbery of non-Muslims to fund jihad, the Jakarta Globe reported.
