Officer hurt in shootout with terrorists

POSO, Indonesia – Suspected terrorists set off a bomb in Dewua village, Central Sulawesi, and then ambushed police officers as they rushed to the scene Tuesday (October 7th), local media reported.

    A group of about ten attackers opened fire on the officers from a roadside hill about 5km from the blast site, The Jakarta Post reported. Poso Police chief Susnadi said a 30-minute gunfight ensued, leaving one policeman with a minor injury.

    Police are searching for the escaped assailants, Acting Central Sulawesi Police spokesman Utoro Saputro said. No arrests were made as of Tuesday.

    National Police Deputy Chief Badrodin Haiti said the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) was mounting attacks on officers in response to increased searches for their leader Santoso, the Jakarta Globe reported. Densus 88 arrested four MIT-linked suspects earlier this week.
