Ex-Malaysian rocker recruiting for ISIS

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Former Malaysian rock musician Akel Zainal reportedly is recruiting youths to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), according to an Utusan Malaysia report Monday (October 13th).

    Akel, a rock 'n' roller from the 1990s, allegedly is leading a group of Malaysians fighting for ISIS and is using social media to recruit new members.

    Police also confirmed Monday that former Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) student Syamimi Faiqah left October 4th for Syria reportedly to marry Akel, whom she had met via Facebook.

    "Syamimi is now believed to be at the Turkey-Syria border and is waiting to slip into Syria. When she arrived at Istanbul airport there were already two individuals waiting for her to bring her to Syria," Ayob Khan Myudin, Federal Police Special Branch principal assistant director (Counter-Terrorism Division), told Bernama.
