The West Java town of Tasikmalaya plans to enforce head coverings and other sharia rules by setting up a special police force. Critics see a threat to civil liberties.

I think that implementing the sharia law would be a step back! Look at Saudi Arabia with its sharia law, is it safer, more prosperous or more superior? No, Indonesia is one of the countries which possesses a large economy and our military is number 15 in terms of strength. Do not say that it is so that society becomes more pious. Based on surveys, Muslims in Indonesia is the most pious, more people attend the mosques than countries employing sharia law.

The sharia law does not erase women's rights, in fact, it liberates women. What sane person would dare harass a woman who covers her body? Ever since the times of monarchies in Indonesia, noble women have been covering up, whether with clothes or by staying inside the women's palace quarters.
A caliph is freely chosen by Muslims everywhere for his wisdom and spiritual qualifications. The ISIL leader's proclamation of himself as caliph over all Muslims violates the principles of Islam.
Indonesia's tradition of moderate, tolerant Islam is under threat by hard-line groups who are imposing their conservative views on others and intimidating religious minorities.
