Dozens of Indonesians held in Cambodia for gambling

September 12, 2012

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – Cambodian authorities announced Monday (September 10th) the arrests of 114 Indonesian nationals during raids on a suspected online football gambling ring in the capital, AFP reported.

They were picked up from two houses, according to Interior Ministry official Chhay Sinarith.

He said the group took bets on football matches from people in Indonesia, settling the deals through online bank accounts.

Betting on football matches is illegal in Cambodia and nationals are not allowed to gamble. But Cambodia's borders with Vietnam and Thailand are dotted with dozens of casinos.
