Militant attacks prompt hundreds of Thai schools to close

PATTANI, Thailand – Classes were suspended Monday (November 26th) at hundreds of schools across the Deep South provinces following attacks by insurgents who have killed scores of teachers and other education personnel, AFP reported.

"We want to put pressure on security forces and the government to take greater care of our safety," Boonsom Thongsriply, chairman of the teachers association in the region, told AFP.

In all, 321 schools are temporarily closing due to bombings and roadside shootings that are occurring almost daily.
