NARATHIWAT, Thailand -- Insurgents firing into a tea shop killed four people-- including an 11 month old baby girl-- and injured four others in Narathiwat's Tanyongmilor subdistrict Tuesday (December11th), The Bangkok Post reported.

According to the newspaper, a pickup truck with three men in the back stopped outside the shop and sprayed it with bullets before driving off.

Five hours later, at least five men attacked a school in Pattani’s Mayo district, killing the school’s director and a teacher before stealing one of the victims’ pickup truck. The Post reported two attackers were wearing police uniforms.

An estimated 375 state schools had reopened amid tight security Tuesday after closing last week to protest the government's failure to provide adequate security.

National Police Chief Adul Saengsingkaew now plans to meet with army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha on Thursday to discuss how to combat the insurgents. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is also expected to visit the region on the same day.
