Malaysian killed in Algeria siege

January 24, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – The foreign ministry confirmed that a Malaysian was among those killed during the Algerian hostage crisis earlier this week and that a fellow worker at the desert oil gas complex remains unaccounted for, AFP reported Wednesday (January 23rd).

The ministry said it is working to bring home the body of Chong Chung Ngen, but is growing concerned over the lack of details provided by Algerian authorities regarding the missing man, Tan Ping Wee.

Two other Malaysians who worked at the plant are in Algiers awaiting flights home, while a third has volunteered to stay and help locate Tan. In all, 37 foreigners were killed during the siege.
