KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Prime Minister Najib Razak dissolved Parliament Wednesday (April 3rd) ahead of what analysts say could be the closest elections in decades, AFP reported.
The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition has spent 56 years in power, but the opposition led by former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim may pose a serious challenge this time, vowing in part to reduce corruption and living costs.
By law, the vote must be held within 60 days of dissolving Parliament. Independent pollster Ibrahim Suffian of the Merdeka Centre told AFP that he expects elections during the week of April 27th.
