LAMPAHAN, Indonesia – An earthquake registering 6.1 on the Richter Scale rocked Aceh province Tuesday (July 2nd), killing at least five people and injuring dozens, AFP reported.

"The quake was felt strongly for around 15 seconds, from Bener Meriah to Banda Aceh. People panicked and rushed out of their homes," said national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

Collapsing walls caused most of the causalities, a health clinic physician in Lampahan city told AFP, adding that more than 30 people suffered serious head injuries.

A landslide triggered by the quake killed at least one worker at a coffee plantation in the village of Suka Makmur.
