Malaysia handball players charged with raping woman at tournament

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Three young Malaysian handball players have been charged with raping an official at a national tournament, a government lawyer said Thursday (July 11th), according to AFP.

The alleged attack occurred early on July 4th in a room at a games village during the interstate Malaysia Games.

The victim is described as a communications liaison officer for the Federal Territories girls' handball team. The Star reported that she left the games village to drink with several handball players before the alleged assault.

If convicted, the three athletes would face up to 20 years in jail and caning.
