Drugs seized in Malaysia

July 16, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Customs agents on Wednesday (July 10th) seized nearly 50kg of methamphetamines that had been labelled as Chinese tea and shipped to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, AFP reported.

"Police found a bag left in front of a shop in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) that contained 12 plastic packages labelled 'Guanyingwang Refined Chinese Tea'," police said in a statement Friday. Two more bags of unclaimed luggage were seized the following day, containing another 34.5kg.

The total value of the drugs, which apparently originated in Burma, was estimated at $2.7m.

Two ethnic Chinese Malaysians were arrested at the airport Wednesday and will face the death penalty if convicted of drug trafficking.
