All 11 were convicted of drug offences and managed to escape through a window they smashed in the warden's office after beating a guard. A witness said they then commandeered one of the many mini-buses that pass the facility each day.

The jailbreak comes six days after more than 200 prisoners escaped from the Tanjung Gusta prison in Medan, Sumatra, after setting fire to the facility. Only about half of them have been recaptured.
