JAKARTA, Indonesia -- The National Police will tighten security during Idul Fitri celebrations, in part via an initiative dubbed "Operations Ketupat", Koran Tempo reported on Tuesday (July 23rd).

Police have also increased their monitoring of potential terror threats. The head of the Police Public Relations Division, Inspector-General Ronny F. Sompie, said that the Special Detachment Anti-Terrorism and Criminal Investigation Bureau is following the situation closely.

Terrorism expert Wowiek Mardigu Prasantyo told Tempo on Tuesday that attacks are a possibility during the Muslim festivities. "They [terrorists] want to aim for the crowds and create threats to people," possibly emulating three attacks that took place last year in Solo, Central Java.

This year, he predicted, attacks "can be on Java or outside Java. They are likely to spread around and be sporadic".
