KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Prime Minister Najib Razak vowed Tuesday (July 30th) that police would crack down on "brazen" crimes in the wake of Monday's murder in broad daylight of a respected businessman in Kuala Lumpur, media reported.

Bahrain-born Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 75, was killed instantly in the attack in the heart of the capital's commercial area. His wife was wounded in the arm. The Star reported the three gunmen fled in a taxi.

Public concern is growing amid reports of killings, armed robberies and other crimes.

"I am deeply concerned by recent developments where murders involving firearms can occur in a brazen manner," Najib said, according to the Malay Mail.

Police said Najadi – who decades ago founded and led Arab-Malaysian Development Bank, one of Malaysia's largest banks – may have been the victim of a contract killing related to a disputed land deal.
