Sharia officer injured after partiers attack Aceh police station

December 06, 2013

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia – One sharia police officer was injured and a police station was vandalised Tuesday (December 3rd) when a group of young partiers retaliated after authorities broke up their gathering in Langsa, local media reported.

Ibrahim Latif, head of the Langsa city sharia police, said a team of 12 sharia police went to a café in Langsa after receiving a tip from local residents that noisy parties were being held there late in the night every night, the Jakarta Globe reported.

"It was also a 'sex party' because men and women who were not related were mixing," he said. "They were in an intoxicated condition and their breath had a strong smell of alcohol."

Police detained four of the partiers and took them to the local station. A large group then came to the station, many of them carrying sharp weapons, and vandalised the station and damaged two motorcycles.

Seven of the attackers were arrested, according to Detik News.
