GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia – Chief Buddhist monk Sumana Siri demanded Wednesday (January 8th) that Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) apologise to Malaysia's Christian community after 300 Malay and Iban bibles were seized last week for containing the word "Allah", local media reported.
Sumana said Jais has jurisdiction over Muslims only and that "Allah" pre-dates Islam and is used by non-Muslims in the Middle East, Indonesia, India and elsewhere, the Malaysia Chronicle reported.
Meanwhile, Selangor will order the books returned to the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) if they comply with the federal government's ten-point solution, according to Malay Mail Online.
BSM said it is in full compliance with the 2011 deal, which regulates the printing, import and distribution of bibles in Malay and other indigenous languages.
