SRAGEN, Indonesia – Hong Kong police on Tuesday (January 21st) interviewed an Indonesian maid allegedly tortured by her now-arrested employer, AFP reported.
On Monday, police detained the woman accused of abusing Erwiana Sulistyaningsih attempting to board a flight from Hong Kong to Thailand.
Hong Kong police officers interviewed Erwiana in Sragen, where she remained hospitalised because of injuries from the alleged abuse. One of Erwiana's doctors said Tuesday she still could not walk. The mistreatment allegedly included Erwiana's head repeatedly smashed against a wall.
"She was co-operative and reiterated she will come to Hong Kong if police think it is necessary but it very much depends on her recovery," Hong Kong senior police officer Li Ka-yan told reporters.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono left a Tuesday cabinet meeting to call Erwiana.
"Believe me, the law will be enforced, justice will be served. What's important is we will help with (your) treatment," he told the maid.
