PATTANI, Thailand – Suspected insurgents shot dead five more people in separate attacks in apparent retaliation for the deaths of three young Muslim brothers last week, media reported.
Police said gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on Buddhist monk Phra Nom Panon, 67, as he collected alms in Mae Lan district of Pattani province Thursday morning (February 13th), killing him and three villagers, including Thitiwat, 9, and his mother Somjai Khunklieng, according to AFP.
Six other people were wounded, including the monk's security escort.
Separately, Sayamol sae Lim, 29, was shot dead while riding a motorcycle home from work and her body set on fire Wednesday in Yaring district, police said.
A note left at the scene said: "To the army chief: this is not the last body for the three brothers."
Earlier, a policeman's wife was similarly shot and burned Sunday at a busy market in Pattani.
