KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Samples taken from an oil slick off Malaysia are not from a missing Malaysia Airlines jet, based on results of a chemistry lab analysis, an official said Monday (March 10th), according to AFP.
Flight MH370, with 239 people on board, went missing over waters between Malaysia and Vietnam en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing early Saturday.
No debris from the Boeing 777-200ER has been recovered despite an international search involving the navies and air forces of several Asian nations as well as the United States. The search was expanded Monday to land in Malaysia and waters off its west coast.
A Kuala Lumpur laboratory analysed oil samples collected by Malaysian authorities from the slick about 185km north of Kelantan.
The oil was found just south of where air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane.
