BANGKOK, Thailand – The Constitutional Court dismissed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and several of her ministers for abuse of power Wednesday (May 7th), AFP reported.

The cabinet appointed deputy premier Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan as her replacement.

The court ruled unanimously that Yingluck acted illegally by transferring National Security Council chief Thawil Pliensri in 2011. Nine cabinet ministers who endorsed the decision were also stripped of their status.

Ruling party officials vowed to press ahead with a planned July 20th election. But that poll date has yet to be endorsed by royal decree.
