May 15, 2014

NARATHIWAT, Thailand – Two bomb blasts damaged railway bridges Wednesday (May 14th) in Ra-ngae and Cho-Airong districts, local media reported.

The explosion in Ra-ngae destroyed the railway bridge pier and some parts of the bridge while the blast in Cho-airong damaged the railway bridge pier, according to MCOT Online. Train service in and out of Sungai Kolok was suspended, halting 16 different services.

State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor Prapas Chongsanguan said repairs were expected to be complete by the weekend. But Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt said southern train services would terminate at Tanyongmas until passenger safety can be guaranteed, The Bangkok Post reported.
