JAKARTA, Indonesia – Runner-up Prabowo Subianto claimed widespread cheating cost him victory in last month's presidential election, at the start of his legal challenge to the results Wednesday (August 6th), AFP reported.
In a fiery speech at the Constitutional Court, Prabowo lashed out at the "dishonesty and injustice" of the poll that found he lost to Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo.
Prabowo's team has filed a lengthy complaint against the election commission with the Constitutional Court. The court must issue a ruling by August 21st. It cannot be appealed.
Independent analysts view Prabowo's challenge as unlikely to succeed.
