JAKARTA, Indonesia – The anti-graft agency has arrested Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq, head of the country's largest Islamic-based party, which is part of the coalition government, for suspected corruption, AFP reported Thursday (January 31st).

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) chairman allegedly accepted 1 billion rupiah ($102,000) from meat importer PT Indoguna Utama to secure a government contract.

A KPK spokesman said the party chairman was questioned Wednesday and formally detained Thursday. Analysts suggested this could complicate the situation for both the PKS and the ruling coalition ahead of general elections next year.
