BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung, the government's point man in the Deep South provinces, said Wednesday (February 6th) dusk-to-dawn curfews may be imposed in areas repeatedly targeted by insurgents, according to local media.
MCOT Online reported he specifically cited Yala province's Krong Pinang and Yaring as places where curfews are needed as part of security measures to protect the public. On Tuesday, four fruit vendors were gunned down inside a hut in Krong Pinang.
The Bangkok Post reported that the government had tried previously to impose a curfew in the troubled areas, but faced opposition from the National Human Rights Commission.
