BANGKOK, Thailand – The education ministry announced Friday (June 28th) that two companies have been chosen to supply tablets to schools across the country in accordance with its "One Tablet Per Child" programme, AFP reported.
China's Shenzhen Yitoa Intelligent Control and Thai firm Supreme Distribution will provide the 1.2 million tablets, at a cost of $110m.
Critics say the programme was a campaign gimmick rolled out by the ruling party. But supporters say the goal to equip 13 million students with handheld devices by the end of next year will help bridge the gap between rich and poor.
