JAKARTA, Indonesia – National Police Chief Sutarman said Wednesday (June 25th) police are investigating if a terrorist arrested in Cipayung the day before was part of a group planning election-day violence, local media reported.
Densus 88 arrested Akbar from his home in Cipayung on Tuesday and Sutarman said police believe Akbar's group plans to attack police precincts during the July 9th election, according to tribunnews.com.
Jakarta Police spokesman Rikwanto said police confiscated a rifle, two laptops, pipes tied together, books about jihad and an air rifle during the arrest.
National Police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said Akbar was a member of the Syariatul Irhab terrorist group led by Arif Budi Setyawan (alias Arif Tuban). Arif was arrested June 19th, according to kompas.com.
