Five Thai soldiers die in Pattani bombing

BANGKOK– A roadside bomb killed five Thai soldiers and wounded at least nine others in Pattani's Kha Pho district on Wednesday (December 11th), multiple media reported.

The 50-kilogram bomb was hidden in a gas canister and detonated by a mobile phone device at around midday as an army truck approached, a local police officer told AFP.

Four victims died at the scene while a fifth succumbed in the hospital, MCOT reported. It said nine other soldiers were wounded, including five listed in critical condition.

Earlier this year, Thailand held its first official peace talks with southern insurgents, but no significant breakthroughs were made and attacks have continued in the region.
