The boys, aged 6, 9 and 11, were gunned down after returning from evening prayers Monday at a mosque in Bacho district. Their pregnant mother and father were also shot, but survived, according to police.

Local media reports said gunmen sprayed the family's remote home with bullets, wounding the boys who died later in hospital.

Army Commander in Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha condemned the attack Wednesday, according to The Nation.

"They (insurgents) have used guerrillas attack against the authorities, violating all rules of war. They kill innocent people with impunity, particularly children, women, the elderly and religious leaders," he said.
