JAKARTA, Indonesia – Three Middle East clerics who once had terror connections will be in Indonesia December 7th to 14th (Saturday) on the invitation of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) to help deradicalise convicted terrorists, local media reported.

Syekh Ali Hasan al-Khalaby from Jordan and Egyptians Syekh Najih Ibrahim and Syekh Hisyam al-Najjar, who once had connections to Jemaah Islamiyah, will hold discussions with terrorists at maximum security prisons in Nusakambangan in Central Java and in Jakarta, according to The Jakarta Post.

"It is expected to straighten misinterpretations of Islam and to provide understandings about the radical beliefs adopted by terrorist groups," BNPT head Ansyaad Mbai told Tribunnews.

The clerics will also deliver lectures at the University of Indonesia in Depok, West Java and nationally televised talks with religious leaders.

The visit is part of BNPT's new "blueprint for deradicalisation," according to the Post.
